Gertrude V Shockley, a beloved mother and devoted wife, passed away peacefully on March 17 2024 at the age of ninety-six (96) in Gilbert AZ surrounded by her family. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Clifton Francis Shockley Sr., brothers William, George and Leon Bratten, sisters Gladys Harmon and Helen Gillette. Survived by son Clifton Jr, daughter-in-law Angela, grandkids Mekhi and Nia Shockley and several nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.
Born in Maryland to Ernest and Mae Bratten, she made her impact on the world until her last day. Gertrude dedicated herself to caring for her family, serving as a beacon of love and strength in their lives. Her gentle spirit and nurturing presence touched everyone she encountered, leaving an indelible mark on their hearts. Though her formal education was cut short, she enriched the lives of those around her with wisdom and unwavering support.
Gertrude lived a simple yet profoundly meaningful life, finding joy in the embrace of her family and the warmth of her church community. An active member of her church, Hutts Memorial AME and attendee of many other churches; Gertrude found solace and inspiration in her faith. She cherished the fellowship of her fellow worshippers and found comfort in the teachings of Jesus.
In her professional life, Gertrude worked diligently as a housekeeper, demonstrating her commitment to providing for her family with grace and resilience. Her dedication and hard work were a testament to her unwavering devotion to her loved ones. Though her physical presence may be gone, the memories of her love and the lessons she imparted will forever remain in the hearts of those she touched. May Gertrude rest in eternal peace, knowing that she was cherished and loved beyond measure.
A celebration of Gertrude life will be held at Family Burial, 237 S Sirrine Ste 1, MESA, AZ 85210 on March 23 at 3pm, where family and friends will gather to honor and remember her remarkable journey. She leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and faith that will continue to inspire all who knew her. She will be deeply missed
